Brad Bonnville lives in Belleville, Michigan and joined a 6-week fitness challenge at No Bull Strength and Performance to help refocus his attention on his nutrition. The interview was conducted after the 6-week challenge, 8/31 – 10/13, and has been condensed and edited for clarity.

Rethinking Health and Nutrition

Two years ago I was feeling old and broken, well before I felt I should be feeling that way. I joined No Bull Strength and Performance and with the help of my trainer Erik I lost 40 pounds.  But after my initial success, I found that I started to put some of the weight back on. I needed to rethink how I approached my fitness and nutrition.

On the advice of my trainer, I joined a 6-week InBody Challenge. It consisted of three InBody tests, 2 workouts a week, and nutritional counseling. Nutritional counseling was something that I needed. When I first lost the weight I was more focused on physical fitness than nutrition. After I started regaining the weight I realized that if I wanted to maintain my progress, I had to commit to my nutrition.

Renewed Focus on Nutrition

My goal for the InBody challenge was to lose 10 pounds of fat. Erik used my Basal Metabolic Rate and activity level to create a tailored nutritional plan based on my goal.

My estimated daily caloric expenditure was 2527 calories. To lose ten pounds in six weeks, we set my optimal daily caloric intake at 2274 calories.

The plan we created wasn’t based on a fad diet. Erik didn’t tell me what to eat or not to eat. Instead, he gave me specific guidelines to follow. For example, he wanted me to eat 170 grams of protein a day, and consume a certain percentage of healthy carbs and fat. We focused on creating a healthy, balanced, and sustainable diet.

And the winner is….

I was able to win the InBody Challenge by losing 11 lbs of fat while maintaining muscle mass, all in six short weeks.

What they say is true, “You’re only worth your diet”.  The feedback I got from my InBody test helped me to follow through with my diet plan. Even after the challenge, I am still very conscious of my diet and how I manage my meals.

“Motivation is key.  You have to want it.  But once you make the decision to do it, you have to find a way to eat healthily and workout in a way that fits your lifestyle. And then you just have to stick to it.”
